Seaside

by Morgan Maes

This picture I drew of a sea turtle reflects my relationship with nature. I grew up living by the ocean and have always loved the joy it brought my life in many ways. Whether that be swimming in the summer, learning to surf with my best friend, or going to the tide pools with my dad, the ocean is my safe place. I chose to draw a sea turtle because they are wise creatures. They glide through the ocean for decades and are very sure of themselves. I like to think I am the same way. Their hard shell serves as protection from the elements while also displaying its age and experiences. I cut out my drawing and attached twine to the top so I can hang it in my room to remind myself of the peace and light nature has to offer. I hope to nurture the same love for the ocean in my own children one day.
