The Benefits of Nature
By Miream Castro, TCU Senior Nursing Student
I believe nature is something that one can share with family, friends, and even individually. The time spent in nature with my family and friends are the best experiences. My favorite time to enjoy nature is when I am visiting my parents’ hometowns in Mexico. It is a great place where you can find mountains, greenery, land filled with crops, and even beautiful beaches. The best part about nature in Mexico is that there is rarely any good service out there, so you can take it all in without having to worry about the life contained on your cellphone. Even when I am alone, I appreciate going outside and sitting on my front porch and just feeling the warmth of the sun.
I was able to learn a new sense of appreciation for nature when I was introduced to the garden at Morningside Elementary School. Seeing how happy the children were and the parents’ faces overjoyed when they saw their kids have fun was a great feeling. It made me realize how nature is also a type of treatment to help relax and make your mental state positive. This is not only for adults, but also for children. I think involving children at a young age in the garden and teaching them how to care for a garden and see it grow, will definitely impact their lives in a positive way and help them grow as a person as well.
