Summer On the Road

By Mary Clair Boulanger, TCU Senior Nursing Student

The summer after my freshman year I was asked to go on the trip of a lifetime with my grandfather. It was going to be just the 2 of us on the road of 12 days while we slowly wound our way up from Dallas, TX to Seattle, WA. We had many stops along the way including Mt Rushmore, the Badlands, Yellowstone, and even an exciting little zoo called Bear Country USA. We spend our days chatting and looking at maps completely detached from the electronic lives we live every other day of the year. This trip changed my perspective on health and how I live my life every day. Most of the trip was spent without cellular service leaving us to look at some of these beautiful sites that were right in front of us. This time made me realize how much I am missing by spending every day on my phone. There is so much world for us to explore but the screens we are holding upright in front of our faces are blocking the view.
